About Livia Blanc
I'm a storyteller first and foremost and one of the things I find fascinating about people and characters are their ability to have a secret, and how that secret, no matter how well hidden, is always read on their faces. Whether you choose to or not, the things you keep from others change who you are, how you speak, the way you walk. I find it fascinating.
I strive to create an environment of comfort on my sets. The moment a lens is on you, there is this unconscious need to pose, to give the best face, to emote. By having us both share in a moment of solitude and not look directly at the lens, people’s facade begins to break away. Look there, look at my finger, just be. I truly want to have the people in my portraits to have an inner moment with themselves, and let the rest of us share in it.
This, their truth, their daydreams, is what I mean to capture. As the observer, we have the freedom to interpret their stare as anything we want. Do the pieces you see in this exhibition ring truer when you find something familiar in the eyes of the subject ? Do they remind you of you, of your brother, lover, friend ? It’s not in the physical attributes that we connect as humans, but in the way we experience life similarly to each other.
I want to put these experiences in the foreground, and not to force them on the audience. Take your time, look deep, have your own daydream. Any answer you think of is correct. Because by this point in time, we all forgot what the question was to begin with. Isn't that beautiful ?
